Catholic Charities
St. Vincent de Paul Church supports The Juan Diego and Latina Women's Center through Catholic Charities. The Latina Women's Center serves Hispanic women. The Juan Diego center provides all of South Omaha with pantry and perishable food, a Christmas program, micro-business assistance and immigration assistance.
Christmas Giving Program
This program is coordinated by the Outreach Committee to provide Christmas gifts for several hundred men, women and children. Referrals are from several agencies in Omaha.
Christmas Giving with St. Vincent de Paul Society
After the parish Christmas Giving Program is completed, an additional Christmas program takes place for people who are referred to the parish in December. Members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society with food, gifts and other necessities assist these individuals and families.
Dorothy Day House
Monthly financial donations are sent to help feed the homeless. Our parish also provides other supplies as requested by the Dorothy Day House. This day shelter/soup kitchen provides 200-250 meals (breakfast and lunch) per day to the homeless.
Essential Pregnancy Services
Education and Pregnancy support is offered to women before and after their babies are born. EPS is located in central Omaha. Volunteers are always needed and welcome.
Fitzgerald Veterans Home
Funding is provided for activities for the residents. Currently, Bingo is the main activity that our parish oversees.
Guatemala Mission Initiative
The Archdiocese of Omaha is forming a relationship with a diocese in Guatemala. Several St. Vincent de Paul Church parishioners traveled to Guatemala in January 2004. This group is working to organize future trips. This mission initiative is in need of people who would like to help organize and/or be part of future mission trips to Guatemala.
Omaha Together One Community
OTOC works to connect people across lines that tend to divide them: race, economics, religion and geography. It addresses the needs of the community such as workplace issues, libraries, programs for youth and immigration. New members welcome.
Parish Pamphlets/Care Notes
This is an outreach ministry within our parish. The pamphlet rack is located in the hall across from the parish office. 2500 pamphlets, which cover issues such as grief, family dynamics, illness, and much more, are taken from the rack each year.
Respect Life Committe
The Respect Life Committee works on issues related to respect and dignity for all human life. There are many activities, which emerge from the work of this committee including the provision of educational program.
Safe Homes/Family Passages/Women's Shelter
These programs are for Women and Children Escaping Domestic Violence. St. Vincent de Paul parish members cook and serve meals at the Women's shelter each week. Our parish supports housing for women and children after they have left the women's shelter.
St. Vincent de Paul Shelter
Financial support is given each month to assist families who are homeless. St. Vincent de Paul parish members cook and serve meals at the shelter every week. Also there is always a great need for funds to assist families who are homeless.
St. Vincent de Paul Society Committee
The St. Vincent de Paul Society committee members meet monthly, make home visits, collect food, clothing and furniture and assist many people who are in crisis. There is also a special Christmas program each year. Money donated each month goes to the Omaha St. Vincent de Paul Society headquarters for direct crisis/client assistance.
Siena Francis House (Largest Homeless Shelter in Nebraska)
"Caring for the poor means providing shelter, food, clothing and recovery services to those who are homeless or near-homeless" - Mike Saklar, Executive Director Siena/Francis House
Summerfest
On the first Sunday of June, St. Vincent de Paul Outreach Committee has a parish family event. There are games, rides, food, prizes, basketball tourney and a lot of family fun. Money from this event is used to fund many of the Outreach ministries during the year. Come and volunteer and have fun!
