Habitat for Humanity. Join our Habitat team this summer as we build with the Carpenter's Crew coalition of churches. Work is scheduled to begin in August and continues every weekend into early November. Volunteer sign up will take place after Masses on the weekends of June 12/13 and 19/20. No building experience is needed. We will also be collecting donations to help cover the cost of building materials. The Dorothy Day Garden - Spring is here! Do you enjoy gardening? The plants are in for the second year of our parish community garden. All vegetables harvested are donated to Omaha area shelters. If you would like to help by watering, weeding or harvesting throughout the summer months, please contact Kathy at wilhemk@svdpomaha.org.             See pictures of the garden.

Outreach Co
mmittee - This committee functions to provide service, education and advocacy related to social justice and human needs both within the parish and to the greater community. Meetings are held August through May, on the second Tuesday of the month, at 7:00 p.m. The chairperson is Renee Kampschneider, rkampschneider@cox.net. Respect Life Committee -The St. Vincent de Paul Respect Life Committee is dedicated to responding to Pope John Paul II's call in The Gospel of Life to respect, protect, love, and serve life in our society through programs which support, promote, and create a culture of life. This committee offers parishioners numerous opportunities to promote the diginty of life through prayer, legislative advocacy, education, and direct service. One Can Help Food Collection - Nonperishable items are collected for local food pantries on the third Sunday of each month. Volunteers are needed at Noon to load vehicles, deliver the food, and help to stock the shelves at three Omaha pantries. On the second Sunday of each month volunteers are needed to help distribute grocery bags to parishioners following Masses. IXIM Guatemalan Mission - St. Vincent de Paul parish is a member of this Archdiocesan group that provides support, missionStephanie (parishioner and IXIM member) and a friend in Guatemala. education and outreach to the country of Guatemala. Efforts include mission trips to Guatemala, fundraising, coordinating volunteers with medical expertise, partnering schools and religious education programs between the dioceses, and building community with Guatemalans living in Omaha. Women's Shelter Meals - The parish provides a meal for the women and children at the Women's Shelter every Sunday at 5pm. Volunteer cooks prepare part of the meal at home and deliver it to the server. Volunteer servers take the entire meal to the shelter and help to serve dinner. Volunteers are scheduled to cook or serve once every four months. For more information or to volunteer contact Mary Finley at mfinley@oppd.com.
 
St. Vincent de Paul Society - The parish chapter of the Society works in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul to help people in need. Society members engage in person-to-person service in home visits to assess needs and provide resources related to food, rent, utilities, clothing and shelter. The Society gathers monthly for prayer and planning. Two person teams meet periodically to conduct needs assessments. Back to School Drive - This annual collection provides school supplies to children in need who attend Omaha area Catholic schools.

Christmas Giving Program
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Christmas Giving Program. This year our parish was able to provide food, clothing and Christmas gifts to 42 families, including 110 children, through the Catholic Charities Womens' Shelter and Juan Diego Center. We also provided gift packages for 62 veterans at the Thomas Fitzgerald Home and 232 individual toys and stocking stuffers for the children at St. Joseph's Parish.


Trivia Nite 2010
A great success again this year! Twenty one teams competed for bragging rights and to raise money for parish outreach to people in need. Thanks to all who participated. This annual parish event is a fun way to help others. We'll play again in January 2011.
