Grief Ministry

Coping with the death of a loved one can be a long and painful process. There is no right or wrong way to grieve as each person experiences grief differently, but we have resources to help you navigate this difficult road.

Bereavement Companion

At SVdP, we help others turn loss into healing through companionship. This ministry is designed to help those in the community who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Volunteers serve as a companion to either support a parishioner who has suffered loss, or to work with a team to lead our grief groups. Training is provided one-on-one. If you are interested in volunteering or are in need of support, please contact our pastoral minister, Nicole Florez at florezn@svdpomaha.org or 402-496-7988.

A Path to Healing

Offered both in the spring and fall, “A Path to Healing” is an 8-week grief group session that utilizes Alan Wolfelt’s book, Understanding Your Grief, to help in the healing process. This grief group is facilitated by our Bereavement Team and meets Saturday mornings.

Fall Sessions begin September 26 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the St. Vincent Room. There will be an informational meeting on September 19 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the St. Vincent Room where you can discover resources offered and receive your book. For more information or to register, please contact Nicole Florez at florezn@svdpomaha.org or 402-496-7988.

You Are Not Alone

This ongoing ministry provides speakers and personal testimony on topics specific to all forms of grief. It is a means to provide hope, understanding, prayer and support. This gathering normally meets on the last Wednesday evening of the month, except in July and December, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Family Room. Each month has a different topic. No registration or RSVP is needed. Walk-ins are welcomed!

Healing Packages

Our bereavement ministry offers healing packages to mothers dealing with miscarriages, infant loss or loss of a child. Regarding miscarriages, we understand that at times even family is unaware of a pregnancy.  This can make the grieving process more difficult. The package contains resources and self-care items with the hopes of providing some comfort during a time of pain and sadness. Contact Rebecca Frans at rebeccalynnfrans@gmail.com or text/call 402-380-2602 if you or someone you know is needing a ‘Healing Package’.  Contacts with Rebecca remain confidential.
