EMHC

Minister God’s mercy to others by becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC). EMHCs assist the clergy with the reverent distribution of the Body and Blood during Mass. Some EMHCs take Communion to the sick and shut-ins as well.

This ministry calls for a deep respect for the Eucharist and a commitment to living one’s faith both within and beyond the liturgy. EMHCs serve with humility, recognizing the sacredness of their role and the privilege of assisting in the sharing of Christ’s presence with others.

Who can serve as an EMHC?

Eligible candidates are fully initiated, practicing Catholics, in good standing, who have a parish affiliation, have demonstrated responsibility and commitment to service and are at least a rising junior in high school.

How can I become an EMHC?

In order to become an EMHC, you must complete the on-line Archdiocesan training session, attend the parish Mandation Mass and attend a parish-specific training session after Mandation.

Why serve as an EMHC?

  • Assist in the reverent distribution of Holy Communion
  • Serve the parish community during the Mass
  • Deepen your faith and devotion to the Eucharist
