Lector

Lectors participate in the Mass in a meaningful way by proclaiming the Word of God. Through clear, prayerful proclamation of Scripture, lectors are entrusted with the important takes of helping the congregation hear, understand and reflect on God’s Word.

Are you called to serve as a Lector?
Lectors are parishioners who are comfortable speaking in front of others and are committed to regular Mass attendance. Lectors have good diction, are able to pronounce and enunciate words clearly, while understanding the importance of inflection, emphasis and pacing to communicate more effectively. Lectors must also be open to feedback in order to improve the proclamation of God’s Word.

Who can serve as a Lector?

Eligible candidates are fully initiated, practicing Catholics, in good standing, who have a parish affiliation, have demonstrated responsibility and commitment to service and are at least a rising junior in high school.

How can I become a Lector?

In order to become a lector, you must complete the on-line Archdiocesan training session, attend the parish Mandation Mass and attend a parish-specific training session after Mandation.

Why serve as a Lector?

  • Proclaim God’s Word to the parish community
  • Grow in faith through prayerful preparation of Scripture
  • Participate actively in the liturgy
  • Serve the Church using your voice and gifts
