Religious Formation is for children who attend a public school or non-Catholic private school for grades 1-8. We provide both In-Person Classes or Home Program. Preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation for all children is also part of the program. For any child 7 to 18 years old in need of Baptism or other Sacraments, we offer Order of Christian Initiation of Children (OCIC).
For children attending public school, classes are held on Wednesday evenings at 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you would like to register your child or have any questions, please contact Jennifer McMahan at mcmahanj@svdpomaha.org.
Children in second grade normally receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. To receive these Sacraments, children must have two years of Religious Formation or attend a Catholic school in first grade before receiving First Reconciliation or First Eucharist.
If Wednesday evening classes are not an option for your family or you would like to teach our faith at home, we invite you to participate in our Home Program. Please contact Jennifer McMahan at mcmahanj@svdpomaha.org for more information.
We welcome individuals to become part of this active ministry of the Word. A catechist is a person who facilitates the process of faith formation. This is done first by echoing the word of God in his or her own life, and second by helping others to do so. You will become part of our community here at St. Vincent de Paul; dedicated in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with children.
Do you enjoy working with children? Perhaps you are being called to be a catechist!
Why become a Catechist? We know deep down we are called to do this, this passing on of our beloved faith. But who doesn’t feel a bit inadequate every once in a while? Thank God, catechists are not required to be perfect, to know everything about the faith, or to have years of “seasoning” as teachers. You are invited and there is a need! We urge you to prayerfully consider becoming a catechist with our religious formation program. Come on board…please contact Jennifer at mcmahanj@svdpomaha.org for more information.
Our parent volunteers make our Religious Formation program a success. We need parent volunteers in the following areas:
Safe Environment Certification is required for volunteers. Click here to find out more information on Safe Environment.
If you can help in other ways, please contact Jennifer McMahan at mcmahanj@svdpomaha.org. Thank you for helping!
Order of Christian Initiation of Children (OCIC) is for any child who is 7 up to 18 years old and still in high school. Children are either unbaptized or baptized in another faith coming into the Church for the first time. OCIC is also for students in grades 3 through 12 who are baptized Catholic but have not received other sacraments. If you would like to register or have questions, please contact Jennifer McMahan at mcmahanj@svdpomaha.org for more information.
