Becoming Catholic (OCIA)

Are you curious about the Catholic Church? Have you been thinking about becoming Catholic? Were you baptized Catholic but never received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation?

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process through which adults are welcomed into full communion with the Catholic Church. It’s a journey of faith, reflection, prayer and learning—open to anyone who feels drawn to explore the beauty, depth and truth of the Catholic tradition.

Whether you are unbaptized, baptized in another Christian tradition or a baptized Catholic seeking to complete your Sacraments, you are welcome here.

Who is OCIA For?

  • Persons who are not baptized.
  • Persons baptized in another Christian faith who desire to become Catholic.
  • Baptized Catholics in need of First Communion and/or Confirmation.

For those who are interested in becoming Catholic, St. Vincent de Paul offers the experience of OCIA. This program is led by a team of parishioners who are dedicated to sharing and teaching the Catholic Faith. OCIA begins in the Fall and continues through the Easter Vigil. Those wishing to enter the Catholic Church will do so at the Easter Vigil Mass.

If you would like more information on joining the Catholic Church through OCIA, please contact the parish office at parishoffice@svdpomaha.org or call 402-496-7988.
