Learn how our parish answered our Gospel call to “welcome the stranger.”
September 1, 2017 will mark the one year anniversary of the arrival of the Ashbalu family and November 3, the arrival of the Hasan family, Syrian refugee families that have been so generously supported by the SVdP parish family. On October 15, the Ashbalu’s welcomed new baby Sarah!
Over the past year, many SVdP parishioners have provided financial support, donated baby items and diapers, adult and children’s clothing and gift cards and many, many prayers. The sponsorship team continues to assist the families with their transportation needs, guidance and friendship as they acclimate themselves to life in our Omaha community.
They all are making great progress in their English skills through ESL (English as Second Language) classes and tutoring help by team members. The men are working and the school-aged children attended public school. The kids are eager for the new OPS 2017-18 school year! The men hope to have their permanent drivers licenses and a car soon! They never fail to express how loved they feel and how grateful they are for all that has been done for them. The Ashbalu and Hasan families, along with the Refugee Sponsorship Team, thank the St. Vincent de Paul parish family for the welcome you have extended to them.
