Youth Faith Formation is an opportunity for young people in Junior High and High School to grow deeper relationships with Jesus Christ and to continue learning about the richness of the Catholic faith.
St. Vincent de Paul offers opportunities for young people in Junior High and High School to belong to a strong community of faith. Every event, gathering, small group, etc. is a chance for us to strengthen each other in our commitment to live out our faith in our everyday lives. We focus on living out the virtues of courage, commitment, generosity and chastity. We also stay connected through the Eucharist! You can join us for prayer, service, small groups and more.
If you have any questions, please contact Selena Thompson at thompsons@svdpomaha.org or 402-493-1642.
Our Junior High Youth Formation is for middle schoolers in 7th and 8th grade who are invited to participate in Junior High Nights, conferences and more. These opportunities give students encounter Jesus and ability to build friendships rooted in Christ.
At SVdP, we help create opportunities for high-school-aged teens to get together and build relationships with each other and with Christ through Senior High Nights, conferences and more.
My name is Selena Thompson, and I am very excited to serve as the youth minister at St. Vincent de Paul. Growing up, I had the privilege of attending SVdP School while my mother was working as the youth minister. From there, I attended Skutt Catholic High School, getting involved in a variety of activities including ministry. Due to my interest in theology and a desire to grow in my faith with like-minded individuals, I ended up attending Benedictine College. After graduating, I was in Sioux City, IA for a year doing Campus Ministry at Bishop Heelan High School. I am so happy to be back in the Big O, and getting to serve at the parish that began my faith journey.
My heart desires to connect to the hearts of those who feel lonely, lost and hopeless. It’s a gift that I get to be a vessel for Him as a youth minister and that I get to show students how He is working in every aspect of their life. I am looking forward to witnessing the students’ hearts expand in freedom and love as they grow to understand that their identity doesn’t rest in anything of this world but that of His beloved daughter or son.
Faithful adults are a critical part of our mission. If you have a heart for teens and feel called to walk with them on their faith journey, please contact Selena Thompson at thompsons@svdpomaha.org to set up a meeting to discuss the different opportunities to get involved.
We recognize that ongoing learning about our faith is part of our call as disciples of Christ. SVdP offers a variety of recommendations including books, online resources, etc. that you can choose to study and grow at your own pace individually, with your own small group or with your family. These are meant to grow your knowledge of Catholic Spirituality and inspire your own holiness.
